Workshop 3: MONTAGE IT!!

Task 1: Was to create a model for the artist chosen.

My artist was a photographer my idea was to create a model that serves as a studio and working space for him. I wanted to have a division of three spaces that was connected by stairs making it easier for the artist to have access to the different rooms.

The steps here lead the artist from his work space to his display room.

The lowest level is intended to be an exhibition space for clients to view the artists work.

The idea behind having larger windows was to achieve maximum lighting inside the studio.

TASK 2: Sample montages!!

Task 3: Final Photomontages!

For my final montages i chose Italy as the location cause my artist likes to be around people and landscapes through which he gets his inspiration.

Night time exterior
In my night time exterior my main idea was to play with the scale and lighting of the model.I chose a bigger scale so that the building fir into the surrounding and looked like it was part of it.

Day time exterior
I wanted my day time montage to be i a busy street with people so that my artist had some exposure.I played with the lighting inside the building to achieve good depth and contrast.

Day time interior
The daytime interior aimed on showing the relationship between the inside and outside and hence i decided to chose an area of the building that had windows through which you could see the outside.Adding people to the site helped show scale and also make the interior more realistic.

Montage it poster!!

In the poster i tried to capture all the three montages in a gist to spread the idea behind architectural photomontaging and its purpose.

Workshop2 2: Model it!!

Task 1: Experimental models

Week 1 was directed towards experimentation. This helped us  get familiar with the material BALSA. The task was to build two models- one with windows and one without.

Task 2: Bangalay House at 1:200 scale.

Task 2 asked us to built banagalay house at a scale of 1:200. I used balsa as my main material with some foil and plastic for the pool.

So the first step i followed was to build the base. While building the base special considerations had to be made for the cut out of the pool.

Once my base was in place i started placing my interior walls before i could place the exterior walls as it makes it easier.

I then placed the roofs in the places needed and used aluminum foil to enhance my pool along with a layer of plastic above.

Task 3: Sectional models built in class

These sectional models were made to test our skills of creativity and hence we were allowed to play with the choice of materials.

In this model, i choose aluminum foil as the material for one of my facades. I was trying to play with my choice of material and i chose aluminum foil because it was easy to shape and also has reflective properties.

For this model i chose simple brown paper that acts as an element of architecture separating two sides of the section.

This model used plastic as one one of the facades and the reason was simply to make it feel like glass and have a see through effect.

Task 4: Site model of Fischer House at 1:200 scale.

The site model of fisher house was to be built at 1:200. My choice  of material was again balsa as i like the finish of it.

My process towards this model was to use individual pieces of balsa and then stick them together. This made the model a little fragile but i was able to get the finish i desired. The difficult part was to place the model of the fisher house accurately.

I made my trees out of cotton and

I used black board for the base that made the model more stable.

Task 5: Fisher house model at 1:50 scale.

The fisher house was to be built at a scale of 1:50 which was seemingly huger than the previous models.I continued to use balsa as i was comfortable with it and did want to experiment with the material too much.

I decided to build the model in three layers- basement, ground and upper ground so that it would be easier to disassemble the individual levels in order to see the interior.

I paid close attention to the detailing of the interior in each level as it only improved the final result. I again used the principle of placing the interior walls first and then the exterior.

The walls of the house was textured and to gain that effect i simply ran my pointed pencil over each wall. I drew the brick effect by hand keeping it more or less simple.

Model it poster:

The poster reveals the idea behind the transformation from the virtual to real.

Worshop 1: Draw it!!

The idea behind Worskhop 1 was to test our skills of drawing and drafting. The drawings had to be accurately done to a scale of 1:200.

i used pencil colors along with black sketch pens to detail the plans and elevations.I stuck to a brown colored pencil throughout to keep bring out the wooden and earth feel of the house.

Draw it Poster!!
The poster was made to collaborate all the ideas explored during this workshop.
